Below are some galleries of our recent students! We’ve been editing in Photoshop and Lightroom lately- check out their amazing work!

We’ve been working hard! The students practiced taking photos manually instead of using the camera's automatic controls. So, they are now able to think through adjusting the aperture (which controls brightness by an opening that's measured in f stops (f 1.4, f 22, etc.) and also controls background depth of field. They loved pushing focus onto their subjects with dramatic blurry backgrounds using this setting.

Next, they learned about fast and slow shutter speeds, which is a favorite to experiment with. Shutter speed also controls brightness, like aperture, but with time instead of the size of the opening. It also decides our subject's motion blur or sharpness, and we did some fun motion experiments to test it out. Lastly, they learned about ISO, which is how sensitive the camera is to light- so if you bump it up, the photo gets brighter while also increasing digital noise or grain in some dark situations. We aren't scared of bumping up our ISO if needed, even though some photographers shy away.

We also learned the composition tools: fill the frame, leading lines, negative space, and "tool/rule” of thirds; well done, students!
