ART AT HOME | HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Happy Mother’s Day! The world has been celebrating and honoring mothers for thousands of years and now it’s your turn! Creating art is a perfect way to express your feelings and tell your mom just how much you love her. So grab a camera or (borrow a parent's phone) and get to work! Download our instruction sheet for this project (here!)

    MATERIALS:

    • camera or phone
    • computer (if you want)
    • noteboo k or piece of pape

    THINK:

What words would you use to describe your mom? How would you represent those words with a picture? What do you like to do together? How would you visually tell someone about her? As you’re brainstorming you can write these things down.

    SEE:

Look around your house, outside, and anywhere else you go while working on this project—notice your surroundings, the lighting, and the colors. Do you see anything that would help you to visually represent your mom and what you love most about her?

    DO:

Once you’ve found the perfect subject for your mom-inspired photo, examine it from different angles and from different distances—you might even want to get on the ground. Think about how to best capture your idea—should you zoom in close to something specific? Or do you want to capture a lot of different things in one shot? Get a few good images that make your eyes happy.

    INSPIRE:

If you have siblings or another loved one who is inspired by your mom, invite them to join in the fun by taking their own photos that represent what they love about her on this special day! When you’ve gathered all of your photos, share your artwork with your Mom! (Don’t forget to tell her why the subjects of your photos remind you of her!)
